our shopping experience in Barbados will probably take you to Bridgetown – the capital City. And it’s highly likely that your first stop will be somewhere on Broad Street – the main street which runs through the centre of The City – or the adjacent Swan Street, known for its wide variety of items and competitive prices.

Barbados is truly a shopper’s paradise, with lots of bargains, quality items and great duty-free shopping. Discerning travellers know the value found in our duty-free shops, which offer an excellent, extensive array of clothing, cameras, watches, electronic equipment, jewellery, designer fashions and fragrances. Add to these bags, travel accessories, linens, sunglasses, china, porcelain, crystal, fine gold and shiny silver. You’ll also find beautifully hand-crafted souvenirs, fine blends of liqueurs, rum, paintings, leather goods, pottery and wood furnishings. There’s something for everyone. Nobody leaves Barbados empty-handed. Outside of Bridgetown, shopping at Holetown, St. James, on the island’s West Coast, Speightstown in St. Peter, and Oistins in Christ Church, presents you with additional choices, bargains and boutique-style shops sure to suit your fancy. The Chattel House Shopping Villages at Holetown, St James, and St. Lawrence Gap in Christ Church, sell a bit of everything, including local souvenirs. Many visitors purchase tropical, fashionable sun dresses, sandals, an exotic plethora of bangles, hand-made embroidery and straw accessories from beach vendors or from the informal one-door shops across the island. Gift and convenience shops are also located in many hotels and resorts, most offering those “must do” items needed for a fun-filled holiday. Barbados also has its selection of malls. Some of the popular ones outside of the City, include Mall Internationale, Haggatt Hall, St Michael; Sheraton Mall, Sargeants Village, Christ Church and Warrens Plaza,Warrens, St Michael. Potteries, art galleries and craft markets can be found at strategic locations. Some of these popular shops are located at Pelican Village, about eight minutes’ walk from Broad Street, and at Dover Beach, Christ Church. It is said that wherever you go in Barbados you’ll find a church and a rum shop. The same can be said about shops, as many Barbadians conduct business from home, and small plazas nestle among residences. While making your purchases, be sure to take home some souvenirs for friends and relatives. Remember, you must travel with your passport in order to purchase duty-free items. Have fun shopping.
